Default EZ Drummer questions

I know we've got a few users here who use EZ Drummer 2. I'm looking at it as a possible replacement for BFD 3.4.x I'm liking the sound of the demo DW kit but the documentation is driving me crazy. Actually it's the lack of documentation because there is no manual for EZ Drummer 2. Looking for basic help on working with MIDI and specifically MIDI mapping. Most of the vi drumwork I have/do is according to General MIDI drum mapping. I find nothing as regards the mapping other than they have a few maps for hardware e-drums like Yamaha and so on. Also can't find anything with being able to change the mapping.

Looking at the manual for Superior Drummer thinking I'd find something that would translate over into EZ Drummer and that comes up empty. As a matter of fact I can't see to see any GM drum mapping in SD! Are my issues related to the demo program or is what I want just not possible?

Got a support ticket in with Toontrack; I'll see how good their support is.

Just a couple of general thoughts:
It's been a few years since I dabbled in the world of midi drums, drum plugins, and midi mapping. But my experience is that manual control of mapping in plugins is seriously lacking. I found that only Addictive Drums let me have the control that I needed. Looked into it a bit again last year, and not much had changed. I don't think EZDrummer offers midi mapping at all. Good luck.

Jack with your skill/experience with MIDI I'd be going straight to Superior Drummer 3. It has modifiable MIDI mapping (see screenshot), I have not had EZDrummer installed in years and don't know what it can do.

Aw shucks. Just wish I had the money to get into SD3. $419 for the initial layout and another $179 for the Death and Darkness lib to get my DW fix.

Did not realize it was that much... I was suckered into it by EZ Drummer upgrades and discounts... well thought out marketing ;-)

I know. Sadly since I posted earlier things here at home have taken a dump electronics-wise (Mercury retrograde if you follow astrology) and even my getting EZ Drummer has taken a back seat.

Hey Jack – here’s hoping for a real quick turnaround!

EZDrummer 2 Manual’s in the plug-in: MENU > Operation Manual
You can save a copy

Toontrack EZDrummer2 Demo – create a free account
https://www.toontrack.com/product/ez...hoCry8QAvD_BwE

You can install Manufacturer’s Map or reassign in your E-Drum:
Go through kit – test each piece to make sure it’s working correctly
If any don’t match, go to individual piece in EZD2, click ‘Details’ to see assignment
Click on ‘Key’ button to change it to ‘Note’
For example: F1 = 41
Reassign in your E-drum to match

Thanks mate for the info. There must be a limitation in the demo because when I follow what you outlined for the manual there's nothing that comes up. I'll need some time to digest the rest of the info you've provided.

As to the MIDI mapping I'll have to see if I can find a Mac version of a MIDI mapper/remapper program I have from back in the day when I ran a Windows system.

I had totally forgotten about BFD until you mentioned it. I had a license years ago but have since switched to SD3 and Addictive Drums.
BFD was a mess back in the day but I was pleasantly surprised by their new website and after entering my old BFD 1 license, the price for BFD3 went from $349 to $49!! Its the full license with around 60Gigs of sample content.
I still think their GUI stinks but I always liked their raw drum sounds. SD3 and AD sound very processed and polished. I record a ton of "real" drums and BFD comes closest to a raw un processed live drum sound.
Just my opinion, nothing more.

Might there be an upgrade path from EZdrummer to SD3?
