Default MP3 conversion

Are there free apps to convert the .wav/.aiff files that PTLE spits out into MP3, or must you pay?

itunes works as well. there are many many free audio converters out there. try google. but to use a third party app to convert becomes a pain very quickly. it's quite worth having PT be able to bounce right to mp3.

CDex is free as is Audiograbber and many others. But for $20, the convenience of importing and exporting MP3's directly from Pro Tools was well worth the cost for me.

Cheers,

Yeah I have always found iTunes to be the most realible conversion to Mp3 as it's algorhythms tend to create far less alias frequencies as opposed to a lot of the other free converters. Audacity's LAME Mp3 conversion is also another good alternative but it doesn't have the advanced options of iTunes like changing kbps from 16 - 320kbps.
Although I haven't bought the option, I do agree that an export from Pro Tools directly as an Mp3 would be the best option as it involves less processing of the audio which leaves less room for error and introduction of alias'. But if it's free that you're after than check out iTunes or Audacity.

One time fee.

By the way, another thumbs up for CDex.
Very useful freeware. Great CD ripper... batch convert all wav's in a folder... many convenient features.
