How to setup 2nd router for S1 and Dock
I have been tearing my hair out trying to get a spare talk talk router setup for use with my S1 and Dock.
I have the 2 controllers coonected via ethernet to the router and the ipads are connected to the routers wifi. However I keep getting conflict messages at startup. I tried to change the talktalk router ip but it just resets to the original one. There is an option to use a secondary ip address but i'm not sure how this works. Please can soebody help? |

Yes, It sounds like the talk talk is using the same IP rage as your other router. Its probably not the best to use as the EUCON router, its designed for easy Internet access.

Re: How to setup 2nd router for S1 and Dock
Hi Eddie.
Also my Main router is a google wifi unit which has very limiting settings. I want to keep my Eucon and Iot devices and separate. What router combo would you recommend for my purposes? Thanks |

Re: How to setup 2nd router for S1 and Dock
Multiple routers on the same network is not really a great idea. You'll get conflicting DHCP servers trying to do the same thing which will create unpredictable issues.
You can add a professional firewall behind your ISP's router but you'll need to do double NAT etc. but then you can setup segmented VLANs etc. etc. and then attach something like a real access point what does the wifi but if you have never heard about these terms it's easier to get a single wifi-router that can do multiple SSIDs.

Thanks for the info. I've heard of these things but would prefer to go the simplest route. Could you please recommend a suitable fast router?

Re: How to setup 2nd router for S1 and Dock
Most any dual band router should do fine(the bigger/more antennae, the better). I got lucky on my setup. I had my internet wired to a switch in the studio office where a wifi router was connected, but I ran a hardware from the switch into the CR and connected a separate wifi router for use with my iPad and a pair of Artist(Mix and Transport) units. I guess because the 2 wifi routers were different brand(Netgear in the office and Linksys in the CR, they must have defaulted to different channels as everything just worked right out of the box(probably never happen again)

You were very lucky!
I need a recommendation for a decent router please. I don't want to keep having the lights go off in the bathroom because the motion sensors' signal isn't getting through because someone is downloading stuff or mixing with the eucon controllers and hogging the bandwidth. I can't really recommend a consumer router, sorry. (not sure which ones can do multiple SSIDs). I use Ubiquity access points separate from a router/firewall which support VLANs and more.

Re: How to setup 2nd router for S1 and Dock
It is not clear exactly what you are doing. Adding separate combo WiFi routers/access points may or may not solve any WiFi traffic issues and may just create a mess for you. Including potential security weaknesses. Were you separating traffic by bands? Aware of nearby interfering WiFi activity? You may be better off leaving stuff on one "physical" WiFi network with good quality router or access points wether combo or separate (eg. the beam forming combo router/access point like the link Eddie gave) and if necessary for coverage use the over-air expansion/extension options of that manufacturer if you don't go separate wired access points. If this is a business/commercial studio I sure would look at stuff like Frank was suggesting.
If the issue created is DHCP handing out conflicting IP addresses then even with consumer gear you should be able to configure the separate DHCP address ranges, or disable DHCP from a device if necessary. Last edited by Darryl Ramm; 07-08-2024 at 10:03 AM. |
