Default Pro Tools Perpetual upgrade price?

I’m thinking of getting Pro Tools Perpetual EDU while I still can as my Educational account is valid until October this year.

If I do get the perpetual EDU that means I can still use it once my EDU status expires?

Also after a year what’s the update cost for perpetual licenses for pro tool standard?

Thanks !

Thanks. I couldn’t find this information when logged into the website…And are you allowed to let the update expire? Like say renew is a couple of years? Rather than continue to pay 199 per year which to me seems a lot…..

No. You can only renew active plan, with the exception of the 30-day grace period in case you forget (and even then your new plan would continue where the old one expired, not the +30 days when you buy it).

So say I let 2 years go by….I can’t upgrade pro tools perpetual ever?

That is the current policy, yes.

Avid only sells renewal codes that work on active plans, but if you have luck you may find an Avid dealer that still has old "reinstatement" codes available. Those work for expired plans, but as said Avid is not selling them anymore so if you want to try your luck you might find yourself painted in the corner needing a completely new license later on. With that said, and do not have bookmarked it, Avid told earlier that if someone has unused reinstatement code they will honor it later so just start looking for one now if that is your plan.

Ok thanks for the clarification….it seems to me that buying the perpetual is a waste of time then as I would need to keep updating it….and if I lapsed I would have to buy it again…

You would keep using the version you had when you decided to let your support plan lapse. It is not a subscription. Just will not get updates without a plan
