Default This is driving me nuts

I installed Pro Tools 8.0 m-powered and I am using a m-audio Fast Track Ultra USB interface. Pro tools finds the Fast Track Ultra and seems to recognize it.

I plugged in a bass guitar into the fast track ultra (input 1 mono) and set the track in pro tools to point to this input. The signal reaches the track when i record the bass guitar,. however, when I play it back, the bass guitar part I just recorded in lagging and is not aligned with the music. When I played the bass guitar part, i was on time, but when it was actually recorded, it seems like the recorded track is delayed.

I am not using any VSTs or anything. Just a bass guitar straight into the fast track ultra. What can be causing this lag? Everythign I record has to be manually aligned. Something must be wrong.

Any help would bbe greatly appreciated! Thank-you
Cal

Set your buffer to 64 or 128(as low as it can go) for the lowest amount of latency.

Thank-you. Will try that. I thouth latency was a factor when using midi, vsts etc? This is just straight audio recording. Or does the buffers also affect staright recording of audio?
