Hi,

I've read on this forum people complaining about the loss of FW DV output when using QT.
Which version is safe ?
Best,

Ok, so I tried the whole stuff and then I don't understand...
I can acces the QT movie play via FW from PT but no video appears on screen...
The movie is DV pal (25fps/720X576), the jumpers on the Canopus seem to be corectly set.
The canopus is connected to the G5's back and FW HD's on the front.
Are those bus independant ? Does the Canopus has to be set alone ?
Please help !
Best,
A

try this :

from a thread from a few weeks ago :

Quote:
You didn't say if you had just upgraded to Tiger or not, but if you have, there is a known QT7 bug that comes along with the upgrade. On some systems the QT installer doesn't work right and NO Firewire devices will be recognized by QT. (Got bit with this when I upgraded my home rig). The solution, courtesy of the Apple boards is:

1. Go to /Library/Receipts (your main Library, not the one in the user folder)

2. Remove ALL the Qucktime Receipts EXCEPT the ones that say "Media" at the end.

3. Go to www.apple.com/quicktime and download the STANDALONE installer (do NOT do the upgrade)

4. Install and reboot.

Your CANOPUS should now be seen by PT.

This is a new mac which original OS was X.4. I've updated to X.4.3 using the downloadable
combo from the Apple website ; didn't use the updater from X.4...

So, does the trick applies even if the menu offers the choice to output off FW and the QT movie window in PT says it's working ?
Best,
A

Hey Aquarius,

The quickest way to check if this is the bug is to try and play some video out of iMovie. If it doesn't play or iMovie crashes on startup then do the fix. If iMovie works OK then it's something in your PT rig. Also:

1. Make sure the Input DIP on the bottom of the Canopus isn't set to Auto - PT won't work with this.

2. Try toggling the input from DV to Analog and back. On mine this will often cause the box to reset and then play the movie.

Hi, I´am using a Digi 002 rack, with a G5 with 2.0 dual prcessor and 2,5 gigs of RAM my sys op is mac 10.4.6, and my main work is audio post. To do this I need to be ablee to run the QT movie on a separate screen. What kind of gear do I need or what I have is enought to do the job?

You will need QuickTime Pro ($30) and a firewire DV video converter. The popular one is the Canopus ADVC-100, though I belive the currently available one is the ADVC-110. You will use QuickTime Pro to save your QuickTime movie as a DV stream. Then, when it is on the timeline in Pro Tools, you will choose to play the movie out the firewire port, at which point the Canopus converts the DV stream to a video signal that you can display on a video monitor. The ADVC-100 has composite and S-Video outputs.

Thanks, you´ve been most helpful! Where do I choose to set the firewire port as my player in PT?
