Default Poll: Fair Accel upgrade

Who of you (like me) would do a HD - Accel upgrade if the upgrade price would be more fair (whatever that means).

Please just short answers.

Cheers Wolfgang

I dont care about the impact plugin, I would jump if the exchange price would be around $1,500.00

When [and if] it's fair... I'm there. (No, really!)

I'd say $1500, with the Impact plugin.

If no ADC, no Accel upgrade for me right now(or near future).

I'll stick with my HD process card at the moment.

But i do admit that a better price exchange would make it tempting.

Not that this will change anything, but yes, $1500 seems about right. -But even then, I'd be worried about what a stop-gap piece of hardware this is.

BTW:

I just heard the Impact plugin today at a Digi seminar. My expectations were very low, and Impact didn't fail me. It was dismal. Sort of like hitting a carboard box with a wet tuna. Really. if it sounded good, I'd be the first one to sing it's praises and congratulate Digi. Unfortunately, I can't.

Not surprisingly, when they demo'ed it, they had the output of the processed sound boosted about 5 db. "See how much better it sounds?!! " When I had them lower the output to aproximately unity-gain, it was game over.

I know Digidesign is a business. And I know they have to make a profit. But I really think it would have been wise for them to offer the Upgrade to HD owners at a very small profit to them. It doesn't make sense for most HD users to upgrade. It will be awhile before there are a lot of "Accel only" plugs. In the meantime it is better to buy a used HD process card to double our DSP power. Digi would have sold many more upgrades at the $1500 price. Maybe their number crunchers couldn't make it work. I don't know. But I don't know many people that are upgrading. For most people, the upgrade from Mix to HD was rocky and required patience. I know it took several months before my studio was 100% compatible with my Mix projects because of missing plug-ins, etc. It would have been nice if Digi gave us "early adopters" a break. But I never expected them too.
