Export vs Bounce -- Volume Differences?
Hi--
I use PT 2019 for recording voiceover -- almost always mono tracks with little to no processing, sometimes some normalizing. On occasion, I've found a clip/region that I've exported to mp3 has a lower volume than the way it plays back in the timeline. If I adjust the gain on the clip and export it again, nothing sounds like it changed. But if I bounce it to disk, then I'll here the volume/gain change. This is not a consistent phenomenon, but it happens enough to make me wonder if I'm not inadvertently doing something to cause it. Any thoughts?

Re: Export vs Bounce -- Volume Differences?
Export does not include any volume automation or setting and AFAIK, does not include CLIP GAIN unless you render it. Your best practice is to bounce(especially if you are sending to someone for approval)

Re: Export vs Bounce -- Volume Differences?
Thanks for the heads up! I was not aware that the clip gain change was not applied in the export unless you rendered it (or bounced it).
Question: If I merge multiple regions before exporting them from the timeline, is that considered a render, and will it carry over any clip gain adjustments made prior to the merge?

In PT it's called 'consolidate'. Select anything, including empty space, hit cmd-shift-C, and there is a new clip on the timeline, and a new wav in the audio files folder and bin, and it includes clip gain.

BTW, I'm on a Mac and have been using Option+Shift+3 to consolidate (it shows that combo in my dropdown menu as well). When I tried cmd+shift+c, nothing seemed to happen. Is that for a different version of PT or for Windows?

Re: Export vs Bounce -- Volume Differences?
Sorry, my mistake. Momentary lapse of… something.

Re: Export vs Bounce -- Volume Differences?
Another option is to COMMIT the entire track(this would include all plugin processing you might have on the track, like EQ or compression)

Re: Export vs Bounce -- Volume Differences?
Yet another option is to just record (in real time) the whole shebang to another track. No need for export or bounce. Then send that track to whomever needs it. That's IF the other party will accept a regular .wav file.

Re: Export vs Bounce -- Volume Differences?
That is just like bounce in realtime, but you can see the waveform building while it records. Both can be canceled when you hear something disturbing. Only pointing out that the advantage of this method is you can do it whenever wherever, like printing a 2-track of drum kit while you record it, with your fader movements.
