Default Download manager providing unusable .DMG

Hello all,

I'm having troubles opening DMG files downloaded using AVID's download manager.
I've used it in the past without particular problems but now:
-the PT HD driver file won't open at all (image disk doesn't mount),
-neither does PT9, which DMG files indicates a size of 360meg once downloaded (the "updater" file should weight almost 2Gig).

I've tried mounting other DMG files and they work just fine.
Any idea/similar experience?...
Thanks.

(I'm currently trying to download PT9 using the direct link, without using the Download Manager, but download time is estimated to one day...)

I recently wanted to try the Avid Media Composer demo. Downloaded it overnight (big file for DSL). When I tried to open the DMG, I received an error message and was unable to open it.

I gave up.

Just had the same problem. I tried to download it because the 10.6.6 combo update totally borked my MacBook Pro. I figured I would do a clean reinstall (I'm due)...

Thanks for the feedback.
I have 22 hours of download left to wait... 16Kb/sec...
Feels like I'm back in the 90's...
I'm pretty confident this will work but am still concerned about the driver file. I've tried different pages providing a link to this file on AVID's website (thinking that some links could be "corrupted", sort of...) but all of them lead to the same unusable file.

Well, download stopped at 1,3Gb (1,8Gb expected) and won't restart...
I'm back to where I started.
Tips, ideas, anyone?...
AVID?...

Hi,

Try another computer! or get someone else to download it for you. it doesn't matter who or what computer its downloaded on it will work fine! i download all my Mac files on my PC dedicated to the internet.

Is it a very slow internet connection you have?
are you connected to your broadband modem via ethernet or wireless? obviously ethernet is faster generally.

Chris

Thanks but I have a fast connection and, as I said before, other DMG files (such as Apple OS Combo) open and mount just fine. So it has nothing to do with my computer.
But I might be on to something.
I finally could download and install the HD driver and PT9 is on its way (1 hour to go). If it works too, I might have a tip for other users with the same potential problem.
Thanks anyway.

It has finally worked out.
If it can help other users encountering the same problem in the future, here's what I did.
As indicated in AVID's mail, I went to "Activate and download your product" (under "Your Account"). There, after providing the code, I could access a page with all PT9 related downloads.
It's this particular page that seems to be somehow "corrupted", or maybe is it a conflict of some sort, don't now.
Anyway, all I did was to quit this page, go back to "My Account" and select "My products".
There, I went to "Downloads" under PT9 and all the links in the resulting page worked just fine.
Go figure.....

I had a terrible time getting PT9 to even luanch on my MBP after several different downloads.

Using a set of the optional PT9 install disks worked the first time.

Its my understanding that Mac extraction tool provides the equivelent of a MD5 checksum check when unpacking the DMG and mounting it. Yet each installation failed to luanch. This was with two different MacBook Pros and I even went as far as wiping one clean and doing a fresh install of OSX to no avail.

Hey all, I downloaded the PT 9 update, and was greeted with a file with no extension.

Adding the DMG extension, or also simply right clicking (or option-clicking) on the file and clicking on extract files will also help out.

This happened to me for both Mac and PC versions, and I was able to extract for both versions and successfully update on all of my studio computers.
