Default Recommend for me some small monitors

I'm looking to get some monitors for a small 002-based production room I'm setting up for work (public radio). It's a small room, and I'd like them to be fairly small and unintrusive - they'll be sitting between (and to the sides) of two people sitting opposite each other, for interviews (obviously they'll only be used for the production part).

They'll be used mostly for interview/news production, perhaps a little music, but not much.

I'd prefer them to be powered, but that's not absolutely necessary.

There's the Event PS5 and 6, small ones from Mackie, Genelec, and JBL - anything else I should consider listening to?

We have Electrovoice Sentry 100s in our other rooms, so I don't think the standards are too high...

Oh, and we're in the middle of nowhere (Wichita, KS), so I don't know how many of these I'll be able to hear, unless I order a bunch and just return them.

Thanks for any suggestions!

Go with the Genelecs if you can. I have the larger Mackie's, I like a lot but I hear a lot of people don't like them. They work well for me.

the genelecs have a very small sweet spot, and are very flattering IMHO.

I'd check out some JBL's....

If you can afford Genelecs, that'd awesome,
but I can highly recommend you the Event Tuned Reference 5s.
For the price, ($300) they are really good.

The Genelec's are easily the best out of your pick, but its often said that you should get the sub for them aswell, which is v-expensive!Yamaha MSP5's are very nice for the price,if your used to NS10's its the best alternative!

im using the KRK V4's, small, good looking, good performance. this is what SOUNDONSOUND wrote about them:

"Stunning sound which belies the price and physical impressions. Detailed and precise, but tonally neutral and well balanced. Very flat response with superbly extended bass for cabinet size. Small size and weight. ... A miniature nearfield monitor with major-league performance. Broad, expansive sound stages and wide bandwidth with remarkable bass, but spectrally flat and neutral in presentation. A true reference monitor."

OK, I know this will sound crazy, and if you can afford more than $219, then forget I even mentioned this, but... I was given a pair of Samson Resolv 50a active monitors last spring and they're really not *that* bad. I never would have even considered buying them (or trying them for that matter), but for free, I gave them a listen. I use Mackie HR-824's as my main monitors, but every now and then I'll use the Samsons in certain applications. If you want to go cheap, check them out. They're very, very small and I think they make a sub that goes with it if that ever became necessary.

KRK V4s

Excellent little monitors, and translate extremely well onto other systems.

Pick them up for less than $500 now.

Read the SOS review here.
