latency with tascam us-224

why do i get such extreme latency with the us-224? I also have the same troubles in cubase 32 but in cubasis (bundled software) i have no latency. I also read that i can use the us-224 to control faders in protools, but haven't figured that one out either. [img]images/icons/confused.gif[/img]
