Default Mezzo, Mezzo

It has happened.

A client has asked me to restore files from 2000. Backed up with mezzo 3.8

I have no luck getting this up and running.

It seems GMR are now defuncked.

Is there anything I can do?

Majorly stressed

Stefan

Why stress? Keep yourself healthy. Your client chose to backup files with the worst piece of backup software ever invented (IMHO).

If v3.8 was licensed with iLok, you can probably get a system up and running by putting together a compatible system on an external drive.

Try the link below - maybe you can find enough archived info from the site to pull together all you need to reassemble a compatible system (you have to click on all the links to find the archives that work):

Thanks for the responses guys.

Mezzo was never authorized on an ilok here, in fact I can't remember the copy protection scheme it was so long ago.

Did the ilok "pass around" ever happen?

I have called a few studios here in Sydney hoping they may something to offer.

Thanks

Stef

I must say that, aside from dealing with the headache of resurrecting a SCSI DDS3 tape drive and finding an old G4 to run it on as well as upgrading Mezzo 3.x to Mezzo 4.x ($100 fee and, yes, iLok support), Mezzo and tape has been FAR more reliable than even multiple backups to firewire drives.

There are some issues regarding file names when restoring OS9 sessions but, overall, I'd much prefer dealing with that than being faced with multiple drive failures (yes, multiple backups, same failure) and total loss of data.

I haven't decided yet what format to use for newer backups yet. Tape seems so 20th century and I've seen enough DVD backups fail to avoid that path. I suppose I'll have to go to triple and even quadruple firewire backups for now.
