Default HW Buffer Size 2048?

For a while in PT 6, the largest HW buffer option (Playback Engine dialog) was 2048 samples. Somewhere along the way (I forget which update) this was reduced to 1024. Was there any reason for this? Yeah, there's the latency issue during tracking, but during mixdown with lots of 'verbs & especially CPU-hog instruments like SampleTank, etc., it was occasionally useful. Some sessions that worked fine for me at 2048 now halt playback with the "CPU too busy" alert box using the current 1024 max. setting (on a lean-configured dual 1.25 G4 w/1.25GB RAM).
Unless someone knows a tech reason NOT to, can we request that Digi re-instate the 2048 buffer size selection in upcoming updates?

I'm also curious about this! Anyone have an answer? There have been many times when I have hit a brick wall cpu-wise at 1024, and I only needed a couple more plugins. 2048 would have come in handy!

DIGI kindly responds "dear customers...if you are having a shortage of CPU resources, please look at our affordably priced line of Pro Tools HD accel products. Have a nice day!"

<bump> Does anyone know of a reason why the 2048 HW Buffer size option couldn't be reinstated in the next versions of LE?

2048, anyone?
