Quick question. If your tracks and auxes are in stereo but your Master Track is in mono can you still end up with a stereo file? (No bus processing on the Master).

What do you mean by "Master Track"? A mono Master Fader? or a mono audio track? A mono master fader will only control the level of a mono signal and a mono audio track will only record a mono signal. If you bounce either of those as a stereo mix, you will have a stereo file, though it will have the same signal on both channels so will essentially be a mono mix.

Master Faders control a path. The don't change the format. If the path is mono the signal will be summed to mono.
Are you trying to end up with a 2 channel dual mono file?

No, I'm an instructor and I have a student project that has a bounced wave that is very obviously is stereo but his Master Fader is mono. I guess I'm asking if this Master is controlling any of the stereo channels in his mix.

Ok, I guess I just answered my own question. I faded his Master and only the left side of the mix faded.

What exactly was the bounce source? If you bounce a mono output/master fader you get a mono bounce. I you bounce a stereo output/master fader you can get a stereo bounce (assuming it's being fed a stereo signal), if you bounce using a bus source you get whatever the bus is. ... the importance of understanding how bounce source works. Something to make sure to point out to students... in the simplest case a not uncommon cause of bouncing nothing but silence.

That sounds like a Master controlling a subpath. Have them create a new one with the stereo path and copy whatever settings are on the mono one.
