Hi there.
When using commit on a VI - does it successfully include the reverb tail (if there was one used on the VI within the plugin - like Kontact)? Or do I need to route and record the VI on a separate track in real time for effects from the VI to be included? Thanks Sparky

I would recommend choosing Commit > Edit Selection - then extend the end of the selection on the MIDI chunk based on the decay time of the reverb. So no, if you select exactly the clip length which has reverberant (piano) notes, you will not get the tail if you commit the selection.

Thanks for the reply Jeff.
In your opinion - do you think the sound changes much if the part is committed compared to bussed to another track and recorded? Sparky

They should be exactly the same. You can do a phase cancel test and they will likely cancel completely depending on the reverb algorithm.

SOmething to think about. When committing a VI track of a part, I often turn off the reverb and delay fx within the VI. I find that adding them to the audio track using a Send to an AUX FX track gives me more control over the final output in the mix. Just a thought

Confirming what Jeff said -- it should be identical. It may not phase-cancel because many reverbs have some randomization built in, but the Commit method isn't sonically compromised in any way.

Hi EGS This is what I have been doing - though sometimes my home system gets a bit bogged down when using a lot of VI's - so much so that I get the spinning beach ball for a few seconds during edits. Was trying maximize my system resources by committing... Sparky
