Default Sync X AES to Word Clock reclocking

Hi,

I would like to ask your help. We would like to establish a Dolby Atmos Cinema Hall (now it's working with a 5.1 monitor setup). The Dolby processor would be an IMS3000, we have now a Sync X and MTRX II with ProTools Ultimate / S6 console.

The engineers from Dolby told us, that in the setup the IMS3000 need to be as the clock master. The IMS3000 can send out the reference on AES, nothing else. With the Sync X we feed now the MTRX II and another device with Word Clock signal.

My question is, can the Sync X reclock the AES reference from the IMS3000 to Word Clock and distribute these signals to the MTRX II and to the another device? Is it possible to use the Sync X, like a Mutec MC3?

Many thanks in advance for your help.

Best regards,
Laszlo

afaik IMS3000 is for DCP Playback. If you are building an Atmos Mixing Stage, you’ll need a separate Dolby approved RMU…

Yes. It doesn't "reclock" but the SyncX acts as a wordclock distributor (taking the signal from the AES input.) So you set the source of the clocking for the SyncX to the AES input. Then all other SyncX clock outputs will be sending back the same clock signal.

The MTRX II can either follow clock or reclock, though. Depending on what you choose in DADman.
If you reference the clock (right column) but set the clock to internal (left column), you are reclocking.
If you just have the wordclock input set to the input wordclock (left column), it is just following the signal.

If you have an AES input on your MTRX II, personally, I would have the MTRX II reclock and then send its clock to the SyncX for distribution. But that only works if you have an AES input on your MTRX II. (On the MTRX I, AES was an inbuit input.) Then clock would be:
IMS3000 AES out -> MTRX II AES in -> MTRX II wordclock out -> SyncX wordclock in -> SyncX clock outputs -> any/all other devices that need wordclock

You don't need the the RMU server but you do need an ATMOS decoder attached or the option added.
The IMS3000 is just the media server part (though it has add-ons available to make possible ATMOS decoding.) There are also the Cinema Playback units that can be the decoder attached (which would be more accurate to a theater playback since that's what's installed in theaters.)

Thanks Anuj, yes we will establish a separated Mac Studio with Dolby Atmos Renderer Engine, and will connect to the MTRX II Thunderbolt3 expansion card. :)

Many thanks for this idea, the MTRX II with AES wasn't in my mind :)
We have AES card so we will try this! THX BScout
