Default Mobile rig?

Hey guys I'm looking to put together a mobile recording rig. I was looking at the Presonus FireStudio light pipe with a few DigiMax D8's but then found out the light pipe is no longer made. What would you guys suggest for a 32 input mobile rig with Pro Tools 9?

Sadly, the Presonus FS Lightpipe and the M-Audio Lightbridge are both dead products(right when they should have taken off with the release of PT9). Talk about something that made no sense.....Anyway, I can't offer a firewire 32 channel idea. The Focusrite Saffire LS56 would handle 24 inputs. HD/Native could do it, but won't be nearly as portable. Maybe take a peek at MOTU and RME to see what they have to offer

BTW, if you are running a Mac, you might be able to aggregate multiple interfaces to get 32(it just won't work with Avid interfaces as they don't aggregate). Post this question in the Pro Tools 9 on Mac section of the DUC to see who might be doing this already

I know it's so disappointing! I was watching some videos on YouTube and with the firestudio LP a guy had 42 I/O in a case that you could carry in one hand! I think the digimax can be daisy chained via FireWire BUT I don't know how stable that would be. But I appreciate the info! I wasnt sure whether to post in the Lro tools 9 section or here so I'll go ahead and post the same question.

I still went ahead and got the Firestudio Lightpipe. I recorded a full 32 channels for 3 hours straight with no hiccups. You may have to find it on ebay, but it really works well!

Yeah i saw some on ebay but I'm always hesitant to spend money on a dead technology. What is your set up?

The Presonus Studiolive 24.4.2 would be cool if you're recording live shows etc. but I don't think it's expandable to 32 inputs...

If you can wait a bit, Presonus should be releasing a 32 channel version in the near future

i use an m audio lightbridge and PTMP 7.3 on a macbook pro with OSX tiger. this setup does work with PT9 as well, but 7.3 has a track record (no pun intended) with me as being 100% stable.

for converters and preamps i used octopres, apogee ensembles, API, Vintech, UA, and HD24. in various combos.

i too find it hard to believe there are (were) only two products in this category, and they are now discontinued.

btw, if you are lugging a tower and not a laptop on location, the RME Raydat is a fine choice. Works very well for me with PT9.
