Default Waves v15 is out...

I couldn't be less thrilled. Well, let me amend that by saying if plugin performance on Apple silicon Macs is improved - great I'll take it. But really, how many classic Waves plugins are in need of a dire facelift/upgrade. The trouble may be there's just too damn many of them. Waves big challenge is to streamline their whole product line, modernize it and make it attractive to new and old users alike. Their business model has lead to a lot of decline IMHO. Still a lot of great and useful tools but they're like your drunk olde uncle's closet.

I have to admit I have from time to time missed C6, L3-LL, and Dorrough, but that's about it. Don't miss WavesHell a bit, PT is much more stable without.

It's been said before and I'll say it again. Stop bashing Waves on here. If you don't them, fine, don't use them. They run perfectly fine on Mac Silicon and other platforms and they have hundreds of excellent plugins.

Yeah, the argument seems very dated. Maybe at the beginning of the WUP debacle there were some grounds, but now you have at least 4 other major plugin developers (that I'm considering off the top of my head. There's probably more) whose annual subscription plans (and daily or weekly sales) cost pretty much the same as either the WUP or Waves Creative Access. So there's no real grounds there any longer.

If you're going to gripe about the age of the UI on some of their plugins, I've got some 20-year old Avid stock plugins to show you that are still shipping with every version and haven't been visually overhauled (unless to make them objectively worse ... yeah, I greatly dislike the black+grey+ blue/green aesthetic to the point where I avoid those plugins now).

Just update the stock plugin's UX so the meters don't flicker on a modern OS.
Or - let me fully uninstall them.
I'm looking specifically at you BF-76 (and BF-2A, BF-3A).
I think the Smack! meters are janky too. Probably others but at least I don't have to install them.

I'm not a waves Fanboy or anything, but it works perfectly well on my Windows pro tools rig. Lots of great stuff in there. Used to be overpriced, now their prices are more in line with other vendors. I still use my waves. Haven't updated any of them in years. No need. Still works. Still sounds good. It's just another tool in my arsenal.

I'll say this, I do like Studioverse for browsing Waves preset chains. Cool!

Happy to be Waves free here (after 25 years) - we all have a choice...

Having given them thousands over the years, only to see my investment reduced to continual $29 offers... kinda sucks. Not to mention charging me a $150 fee to sell my plugins... & then charge me another $150 to move plugins between different accounts in the same name. Yeah, the subscription fiasco was a fiasco of their own making, but I do agree, they're not alone.

The problem with Waves is they have too many plugins, & are continually adding to that inventory. If you have Mercury & a few other bundles, finding what you're actually looking for becomes a workflow killer, (even with plugin search).

I've found much better alternatives since I've ditched them, (particularly with UAD going native). There's lots of other good developers out there... Liquidsonics, Tone Projects, Relab, Leapwing, Oeksound, Sonnox, Fabfilter, SSL, Softube etc... give 'em a try - you may be pleasantly surprised.

Personally, I'm pleased to not be supporting them anymore... particularly with what's going on in the world right now...
