iConnectivity Midi Interfaces with iDevices and PT HDX
Hi folks,
I'm running PT11 with one HDX card and am seeing if there's any way to pipe audio into Pro Tools from a core audio interface - in this case it's the iConnectivity Midi 4+ which passes through audio from iPads etc along with all its other midi cleverness. Basically the iConnectivity stuff shows up in core audio as another interface. If I was running a non Avid hardware setup I could add it to a Pro Tools aggregate device and have this available through Tools no problem. I thought I might be able to Rewire Ableton Live and select the iConnectivity stuff as inputs then have the outputs get rewired through to Pro Tools but obviously rewire claims both the input and output of Ableton - so no dice there. After some research I installed Source Connect Nexus Basic, which allows you to feed the audio of another application into a Pro Tools channel. This is cool in theory but as the iConnectivity stuff shows up as an interface and not as an application, I've had to kludge it through the free "Line In" application from Rogue Amoeba. This basically allows you to pass the signal from one set of inputs to another set of outputs, in this case it's iConnectivity passing through to Source Connect Nexus. While I am able to get audio into Pro Tools this way, I'm unfortunately experiencing the most mind-blowing latency - approaching a full second. This happens both if I play a sound on the iPad directly, or trigger it via midi. Looks like it's taking a long time to get through the iConnectivity / Line In / Nexus chain. I'd really love to find a way to make the iConnectivity stuff work - the box is sending midi and power to the iPads, and receiving midi and audio in return. Latency from midi generated on an iPad through to a normal midi sound module is great and perfectly playable, and I've been wanting to find an elegant way to finally incorporate all the iOS stuff with Pro Tools that doesn't involve a ton of cables, and nightmares with losing connections and dying batteries. So - long story short - can anyone recommend an efficient way to get a core audio signal into an HDX session? Thanks in advance, D |

Re: iConnectivity Midi Interfaces with iDevices and PT HDX
IIRC, if you change the audio engine to Core audio, then you should be able to access other devices

Re: iConnectivity Midi Interfaces with iDevices and PT HDX
Hey albee1952,
What hardware are you using for playback/monitoring? Is the iConnectMIDI4+ the only interface you plan to use in this setup? Have you successfully send audio from a music app to PT? Just trying to see where you are in your troubleshooting at this time. Although the iConnectMIDI4+ does not have physical audio input or output jacks, you will see it as a 4X4 audio interface. You can send audio (or MIDI) back and forth from any computer or iOS device connected to a USB B 'device ports'. If you were using two iOS devices with your computer, your 4 inputs listed in PT would be each core audio stereo feed from the iOS devices. With any application, you will need to pair the iConnectMIDI4+ with an audio interface/sound card - unless the application can choose a different source for it's output and input. Let me know how I can assist you further, Cheers! |
