Default Can\'t start PT LE 5.3.1 on initial install - XP

Holy crap...

Helping my girlfriend set this all up and am failing miserably. She just purchased the Digi001 bundled with ProTools 5.3.1. Hardware is installed, set the recommended system settings, shut down all the running programs (that I could find) and installed the software.

When I try to open the program it goes through the loading process, almost makes it to the end, then the computer shuts down, restarts and when it comes back up XP gives me an error message about a serious error. Here's the system info:

HP Pavilion 754n
P4 2.53/533 FSB
512 mb ram
1 80gig drive @ 7200 RPM (yeah, I know, she needs another audio drive, later ok?)
WinXP Home SP1
Onboard sound and video

The only thing I can think of is that it's preloaded with all this HP crap in the background. I disabled pretty much everything I could in both the BIOS and the control panel.

(edit) Have tried uninstalling and re-installing.

Please, any help would be appreciated.

It looks like you may have a serious compatability problem.

Have a look at digi compatability page for digi 001, as it specifically lists the HP Pav as non-compatable.

Go to compatability link above.

Known Incompatibilities
Caution - Digi 001 is NOT supported on the following systems or systems with the following components:

Hewlett Packard Pavillion line of computers

Sorry to hear of the problems man. That was straight from the WinXP Support page. Sometimes its true, in my case I use a system they deem "incompatible" and works perfectly. Others they seem correct. Know I'm not much help, maybe someone else can actuall offer some advice.

EDIT: Bah. Beaten by scoob.

Take a look here: http://duc.digidesign.com/cgi-bin/ub...2;t=004858;p=1

On the first page Allan describes a system that will work wiht PTLE. He regularly updates that page so although its the first page, it contains up to dat info.

You can then build it yourself, or get the stuff you need and let the shop assamble it for you
