Read through the ref guide on the tempo bar pg 428 and more detailed starting on pg 757. It's in your help menu in protools.

Here's how I go about it. (this presupposes you know what you want ahead of time). If you do not know, knock out a rough track to use as a reference. Then you can count your bars and mark your changes using markers..

Say the song begins at 80 bpm, I hit return so that I go to song start and set the tempo bar for 80

I give myself a bit of space at the beginning then I hit keypad return and place a marker and label it SONG START.

At the point where I need to change, say at bar 30, I place my mouse puck (cursor) on the grid at that point then click on the tempo bar and enter the new tempo, say 86. Then when I need to change back, I just do the same thing.

It works for meter as well for using multiple time sigs.

If you are working with something already recorded and trying to map a tempo based on what's already done, that's a beat detective function. You can read on that in the ref guide as well.
