Default Error Message

Hi; I am getting this error message when I bounce:
Could not complete the Bounce To Disk command because The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect. (123) j:\AAA Master Tracks from J\Masters E\AA Full wav\S
.wav

I know that it thinks it sees an illegal character but I am not using one.
I've had Avid help but the problem always comes back.
Previously a workaround was to use only one letter in the file name, in this case, S. But that is no longer working. I've also tried bouncing to the desktop and it does not work.
I'd appreciate any help.

Can you please try to bounce to drive root and 8.3 filename format (like X:\test.wav for example) to rule out anything but a file name too long or something like that?

Shooting in the dark here, but I would try with forward slash instead of backslash(/ instead of \) and if that fails, try with no slashes

Windows is the only OS that uses forward slashes (well it has everything backwards) so that might be something to do with it.

Best to test to root of the drive first so you know bounce is working alright. Then the next step is to find out if Windows is angry about forward slashes or blanks in path/filename or if the filename with path is just simply too long

Also if it is a NTFS drive and cannot bounce to root of the drive, better check permissions

Yes - Windows doesn't like blank spaces. That's why in a lot of file names you'll see underscores instead of a blank spaces.

I've never had an issue with blank spaces in a file name and I've been on Windows since 98 SE. For example, today I bounced out a file with this name:

01 31 20 Bruce Hayward - Aircraft Product 5 Takes.mp3

That's 9 spaces, no issues.

I don't think I can change that. Do you know how? I only see that in the error message.

Not sure I understand you. You want me to name my file like that?

Thanks for the replies. Today I was having the same message so I spelled the file name with NO capitals. It worked. It could've just been an accident though, so I'll report back after the next session.
