Default Nasty Transients

How do I get rid of transients? I have a session where there are nasty transients on the toms is there anyway to get rid of them maybe a brickwall limiter?

HI,

i´ll use Sony Transient Modulator for such things, which is essentially a specialized
Compressor with VERY fast attack and release times.

So since you only want to only affect the transients adjust your comp accordingly FAST.

The standard way of dealing with toms (which are by their very nature extremely transient) is to either compress them or leave them alone and leave yourself enough headroom in the mix to use them as they are. Jumping straight to a "brickwall" limiter without trying these two first would typically be pretty extreme...depending on the music of course. Most cases when you'd jump to a limiter, you wouldn't do it to tame transients, but rather to achieve a certain highly overcompressed and squashed sound...think Nine Inch Nails vs. Bruce Cockburn.

A VERY effective way to control transients is gating.
You can use the the attack to control how much gets thru, dramatically.
