Default The Video Engine had an unrecoverable error

Hi,

I constantly use video (dnxhd36 codec) in my sessions.
Every 10 minutes i get this error:

The Video Engine had an unrecoverable error.
Would you like to reinitialize the Video Engine?

Clicking Yes sometimes works but most of the time i have to restart Protools
to get another ten minutes of work done.

Tried:
Trashing workspace file
Creating new account, problem occurs after an hour.
Repairing diskpermissions
Throwing away all preference
Clean PT install

Any ideas?

Mac Pro dustbin
OSX Yosemite 10.10.5
Protools HD 11.3.2
Blackmagic Extreme
Several external thunderbolt disks

We're seeing the same issue on a brand new Mac Pro w/ PT 11.3.2, OS 10.10.5, and a Blackmagic Intensity Thunderbolt. It might be fine for a 1/2 hour or it might fail every 5 minutes. The bitch of it is that we can't reset it manually. It seems that we have to wait for PT to decide that we're allowed to use video again then we can go back online.

Hi Eric,

Do you think it's Blackmagic thunderbolt related?
Have you found any workarounds?
Would upgrading to PT12 maybe fix it?
Getting ready to pull my hair out...

I don't know exactly what's causing it but it feels to me as though the error is being triggered inside of ProTools, and this topic has been mentioned quite a lot on the forum and elsewhere. Video was pretty solid in PT10 but these threads started popping up with 11. They seemed to go away for awhile but with more recent iterations of PT the threads have returned.

I've only tried our new Blackmagic with 11.3.2. I do have a slightly different Blackmagic at home and it's been ok but that was used more with earlier versions of PT.

For me it's about finding the right version of Desktop Video that works for your system. I'm still on 10.3.7. As soon as I start to upgrade it all starts going wrong.

I downgraded to that version but it only helped rid our video of unwanted horizontal distortion. The engine continues to crash in entirely unpredictable ways.

For your information i switched to the new Intensity pro 4K pci card.
Same problem... Desktop Video Utility 10.4.3 gives me the least errors (once an hour).
