this is probably a stupid question
i've googled this and checked in the reference manual, but it's been a while since i've used pt and i don't currently have it . . . can you record vocals with a plug-in instantiated and a) hear the plug-in b) split the signal to two tracks, one clean, one effected? like say, using the real tape plug-in?
thanks, i appreciate it. |

Re: this is probably a stupid question
yes - several ways:
simple way: 1. set up your channel with the plugin on it that you want. 2. Record. 3. The audio doesn't have the plugin info on it, so you can A/B them by clicking "bypass" on the plugin to hear it with or without the effect. More challenging way with bussing 1. Set up your voice channel and as you want, no effects. 2. Set up another audio channel with the plugins you want. For input, select a Buss (one that's not being used) 3. On the voice channel, in the sends, set up a send to buss the signal to the effects audio channel; gain can be at unity since you want the same level. 4. Arm record on both tracks, and you're ready to go. If you don't need to record the effected channel (like reverb, instead of setting up a 2nd audio channel, set up an aux channel; you can then with either the aux channel or the audio channel use the fader to control how much of the effect is in the mix. I'm pretty sure all this is in the manual. Is there a reason why you want to record it clean and effected, since Pro Tools records everything clean until you bounce it down?
