Default Possible QT & PTLE OS9 Issue

Ug, where to begin. Running PTLE 5.2 OS9 Mbox (old, I know, but that's how I roll). I only use this MAC for PT sessions. Anyway, one day QT and/or iTunes will not output any sound when trying to play any sound files. It 'plays' the files, but no sound. In PT itself, when I try to Import Audio to Track, the little "preview play" button in the import screen will not preview any clips. It doesn't play at all - I can only assume they are related somehow. Anyway, if anyone has ever seen something similar please advise how you fixed it (if so). I tried re-installing QT, but no luck.

thanks,

g

Ah, OS9.

Did you check the settings in the sound control panel?

Trashing sound preferences?

USB cable flakey?

Which versions of 9, and QuickTime? I remember having problems with QT 6.0.3 when I was running 9.1, and had to manually revert to 6.0.2. That was a real PITA, and would have been even worse without backups.

Seems that QuickTime is always causing some kind of problem.

Sometimes the best thing to do with a 9 system that is problematic is a clean install. There's a utility called Clean Install Assistant that will capture all your 3rd party stuff from your old system folder, and add it to the new one. Big time saver, but if it's one of those 3rd party things that's causing the problem then you're back to rummageing through the system to figure out which one it is.

I don't go there much these days, and don't miss it much.

From memory, i think there may have been a clash between the Apple sound control panel, and the Digi sound Control panel. Have you tried disabling the Apple one ?

(May not be right about this.. it seems so long ago...)

It's 6.0.2 of QT & 9.2.2os9. It's so odd. I can actually Import the tracks then play them(big drag when trying to find just "one thing"), but no preview or playing in the QT player. I did try installing QT 5.2, but same result & upgraded up to 6.0.2 again.

Thanks for bothering!

Gregg

6.0.3 is the latest version of QT for 9 I believe. That's the version I have on my G4 with 9.2.2, and it seems to work fine. I get sound through my 001 in 9 no problem. Might give that version a try.

Disable the Apple Sound ext?
No, just the Sound Control Control Panel. Leave the Digi one active.
