Default Adding expansion card to 192 adds 8,correct?

Sorry for the lame question, but if I add an input analog expansion card to my 192, I get 16 inputs as well as 8 outputs (analog), correct? I'm also able to use the stereo SPDIF out digitally at the same time. So my in/out (analog) is increased to 24 from 16 on the original 192.

Thanks,

Mr. A.

Wait, so the thing I dont understand...Looking at the back of the 192 IO on the website, there's already 16 channels of ADAT IN/ADAT OUT and 16 channels of OPTICAL IN/OUT, basically the same thing. Now you have 16 channels of lightpipe INPUT and 16 channels of lightpipe OUTPUT. Why would anyone purchase the digital expansion card? The 192 IO can only handle 16 simultaneous audio channels so what's the point of adding the Digital IO? Unless the pictures of the 192 IO being shown have the Digital Expansion Card already installed....

To get more than 8 channels of AES/EBU connectivity (up to 16), while retaining the flexibility afforded by 8 channels of analog I/O.

Mr. A.
My understanding was you could only use 16 ins and 16 outs at a time on a 192 ???

can you really get 24 ins or 24 out with one 192 with an expansion card???

Your understanding was correct, max 16 in, max 16 out. He is not getting 24 inputs OR outputs on a single 192. I think he's confusing you with his wording. I believe he means 16 ins plus 8 outs = 24 in/out.

Thanks Everyone.
To clarify: I want to add my hardware ( 2 x Neve modules) and (2 x Distressor) as well as (4 x API 550a modules) to a DSub patch bay, which I would connect to my 192 card. I will also have my (8) hardware synth outputs on the bay.

By adding an expansion input card (Analog), I can have a total of (16) inputs going to PT, as well as the (8) outputs existing in 192 already. This brings my total in/out arrangement to 24,correct?

The negative to this is that I need the outs to bring the analog hardware gear back into PT, so my monitoring scheme is affected. I will then need to monitor my Stereo mix from PT via digital outputs into my monitor controller. Or leave a pair of analog outputs available to run to the monitor controller (from the patch bay).

Just looking to see that my logic is correct before I move forward. If anyone had a better way to integrate my hardware processors, I'd love to hear it!

Thanks Again,

Mr. A.

It sounds like you know where you're going with this--but I think the number you get when you add the total inputs to the total outputs (24) is basically meaningless and just causes confusion. Better to stick with just saying "16 in/8 out" or something when talking about the analog. Basically, it's 16 AD converters and 8 DA.

Can I ask what I think is the same question in another way ...

If I have a 192 and buy any expansion card, when I go into hardware set-up, will I be able select more than 16 ins and outs, or will I simply be able choose from a higher number of ins and outs TO BE my 16 ins and outs for a particular set-up?

The literature on this is confusing. I had understood a 192 only ever gives you 16 ins and 16 outs - you can expand so you can connect more, but you'd always have to buy another 192 or 96 to get more than 16 I/O at one time . So, for example if I have 16 analogue outs from a C|24 and want additional analogue sources connected at the same time , I'd need more than a 192?

Is this right?

Hi,

The latter, you get any combination of 16 inputs and 16 outputs and no more!

You can ad another interface? an HD interface or a legacy interface onto the legacy port and have upto another 16 i/o from the second interface, that would give you upto 32 i/o from having just one PCI core card.
