I think your best bet at this point is to see if your Acronis True Image software will work on Windows 10. There is something definitely quirky about your specific setup that is preventing the software you have tried from reliably working.

When you tried the backup SSD in the cage, did you use the same bay as the primary SSD? Perhaps one of the bays has problems.

Same bay every time. Main drive works perfectly in that bay. So far, every restored or cloned drive has failed partially or completely. Not sure my Acronis version is compatible with Windows 10 but will check(the reason I dumped Acronis was that Backupper Pro worked way better.........on my last 2 systems....)

Make sure you are using the very latest versions of image backup software because of some MS disk changes. My approach is to have two system SSDs set up for dual-boot with my audio and system backups on a large spinner.

Are you verifying that you are backing up and restoring the boot partition along with the C: partition?

I am doing everything right and have the latest of everything. I am feeling cautiously optimistic today as I ran Backupper Pro last night and left it. When I got in today, it completed and I have booted to that new clone twice now. Fingers crossed

Do you mean you have used the drive image created by Backupper Pro to recover from, or did you boot from the backup created? (I am not sure how that software works).

This was done as a straight system drive clone. My initial optimism has been replaced with more grumbling. After running the fresh clone drive perfectly for several hours and several reboots, I figured things are dandy, so I uninstalled Pro Tools(and the HD driver) and Pace, which called for a reboot, which(again) worked fine. I ran the new installer(Run as Admin) and off it went with reinstalling Pace and then Pro Tools. when the install was finished, it called for a reboot. The reboot never happened and now I am stuck again with a non-working boot drive(thank God I still have the original system drive)

fast forward a couple of hours, the system appears to be back in the land of the living.....

Maybe you already covered this, as the thread is getting long and I can't remember all of the details, but have you run diagnostic software on the drive you cloned to? Perhaps it is the drive itself.
