Default Why is there a VSTPlugins folder under my Avid folder?

If Pro Tools doesn't natively support VSTs, then why is there a C:\Program Files\Avid\VSTPlugins folder? Wonder how it got there?
MacBook Pro, OSX 10.7.2, MOTU (896mk3 Hybrid, MIDI Express XT), Focusrite OctoPre MkII Dynamic
Pro Tools 10.0.1, Ableton Live 8.2.8
Korg (Kronos 88, MS2000, M3 w/Radias), Access Virus TI, Roland GAIA, Hammond XK-1, Novation UltraNova, Prophet-600
