Default Length of PCI HD cards

How long are the cards? I think I have a 12" clearance in my PC box. Is that enough space?

I think I read somewhere that they were 12.5 inches.
I also think they have to go into a 75w slot.
But I'm not sure about that either.

I would swear that DTS answered that they were exactly 12 inches once. Its been a while back but I did kinda make a point to remember that it was a even number and not a fraction.

They are standard full length PCI which is 312 mm (12.283 inches) as far as I know.

Yup - just a touch over 12", but not 12.5".

I had to use some tin snips, and cut a part of my hard drive bay out of the way to get it to fit.

Last I measured was 12 and 5/16.....

Why almost every case until we get to the really huge ones is only 11.4" (290mm) before it hits a hard drive cage or something is a constant wonder to me

So did I... and it's otherwise not exactly a small case either. But that's not Digidesign's fault - they're full length PCI-x cards; it's our cases that aren't to spec and don't actually support full length cards.
