Default Please Help! Kernel Panics! Anyone Else?

Sorry for the more urgent sounding subject...no one replied to my last thread.

I am still getting kernel panics out of the blue when using my mbox and monitors as my computers output. Here's all my specs.

I'm running 10.5.1 (though this was still happening back in tiger) on a MBP 15 inch (2.2 ghz, SR, 2gig ram)

I'm running protools 7.4 with an MBox2. Both of these have been fully reinstalled (both the protools and my comps operating system itself)

I've updated mbox2 firmware to 1.43 (or whatever it is). The only other mod i made was trashing a midi file (the one that caused the MIDI folder to show up in dock whenever using a midi process, but i did this after the kernel panics so im pretysure its not that)

I realize that this is very likely just a digidesign thing that they didnt get to yet, but i just wanna see if im the only one experiencing this.

To tell you the experience exactly, I'll be using my mbox to play music and general system sounds through my monitors which are hooked up through said mbox. Then randomly (usually when closing safari or ichat or whatever program) it'll kernel panic. The panic log will read something about the usb port iousb family mbox 2 something. I will search for the exact text next time it happens.

I have been having the same problem with 10.4.9 and protools 7.3.1. Digi said that upgrading the mac os plus upgrading to protools 7.4. I guess i should wait a little longer until they figure this out. Any help from digi would be great right about now.

Pro Tools is not qualified for use on Leopard yet so, until we have a fully qualified version, it's difficult to say if the problem will continue or not. It *is* unusual that you're having the problem, though, and we'll be monitoring it to see if it continues.

As for the person on 10.4.9 and 7.3.1 - you *may* possibly resolve the issue by updating the OS to 10.4.11, which implements Apple's end of the fix for this issue. I cannot guarantee anything, as we have not officially qualified 10.4.11, but other users report that it has worked for them.

Thanks Digi for the quick reply. However, this past weekend, I updated to 10.4.11 and have crashed again once. Would upgrading to 7.4 possibly stop this? I am planning on upgrading to that at some point anyway, but would doing it sooner than later maybe solve my problem? Thanks again.

7.4 *should* fix it - we haven't heard of anyone on 7.4 and 10.4.11 still experiencing the problem, but it's only been a few weeks, so it's difficult to say absolutely, positively one way or the other.

Can you give me a complete system profile?

i am running a 15 inch macbook pro 2.2ghz with 2gb ram osx 10.4.11 now, and protools 7.3.1 cs5 with a mbox2 usb. here is the panic log from my last crash. Anything else you need to know? Mainly crashes when I am turning off my computer, or using something like safari and the mbox does not need to be plugged in for it to crash. thanks again for the responses. I await the verdict so i know to switch to 7.4 or wait.

I haven't had any crashes since a full fresh reinstall. Though I have experienced some oddities with the mbox (such as having to reset inorder for the usb power to get through, but i'm not blaming this on digi just yet.) I will keep an eye out for repeated oddities and report any in this thread.
