I'll have to refer to the What's New? doc but I think the newest features pertain to Dolby Atmos.

The biggest differences in versions for me have to do with MIDI.
Basically, from PT10 up to the last version of 11 I never had issues duplicating MIDI clips or applying the cut/insert function to my arrangements.
From PT12 thru 2022.5 I've had constant issues with MIDI notes getting misaligned.

2022.6 & 7 both fixed those issues for me.
Although, I could repro the 2022.6 MIDI note select bug in a new session by doing something I never really do any way.

As I mentioned, I've been able to work fine in new 2022.7 sessions so far and only repro certain problems in previous sessions.*
Mainly if those sessions were created from PT12 up to 2022.5.

I opened up sessions created in PT 10 & 11 last night and was able to work without issue in those sessions also.

So basically this creates a personal PT version compatibility chart for my MIDI editing sessions:

New sessions and previous sessions (PT10-11) work well in PT 2022.7.

Session created in PT12-2022.5 do not work well in 2022.7 and are outright broken in those previous versions for me when it comes to duplicating and cutting and inserting MIDI arrangements.

I think we're now looking at two different MIDI frameworks that will now be broke or fixed depending on when a session was created and what our workflows are.

Hi take77,

Can you try this, instead of opening PT12-2022.5 sessions, can you create a new session with 2022.7 and see if it still happens?

Thanks

Just for sake of clarity, that's exactly what they did. Third to last paragraph in your quote is them saying "new sessions...in 2022.7"

Yes completely new sessions in 2022.7 work best for me and I very rarely experience the current MIDI bug with my current workflow.

It's the PT12-2022'5 sessions that have the sample rounding issues and that carries over into 2022.7. Even if I import those MIDI tracks into a new session.
That's OK because I'm done with those sessions at this point.

2022.7 is working great (for what I'm currently doing) and just in time for my new sessions.

And as mentioned in my previous comments, sessions originally created in PT10 & 11 are also working great in 2022.7.
Those sessions were unaffected by the sample rounding issue and are my most important sessions anyway.

So far I've only been able to repro the current MIDI bug by quantizing a group of clips and then applying the Space Clips feature.

Otherwise, quantization function alone is working fine.
I have to try really hard to recreate the current issue with my current work flow. But Quantize followed by Space Clips can be confirmed.

Note for everyone:

I did hear of a simple solution when unable to select MIDI notes:

Switch to sample mode temporarily (this allows me to select notes & edit).
Then simply switch back to tick mode and continue working.

Thanks for that info.

Regards,

Mike

Enough of the workarounds! They need to fix all this! It has been a decade of lingering bugs. It's embarrassing in front of clients.

That's quite alright Marco! Thank You.
I have no doubt you were trying to be helpful.

@nednednerb

And Thank you also for kindly clarifying.
I tend to type too much info so it's easy to overlook some things.

Speaking of overlooking things, I accidentally put "nednednerd"! Sorry, Please laugh at that!

Have you tested whether this version fixes the midi recording errors of the past 5+ years?

There have been many, many posts on here but just to summarize: You can record midi in pro tools and play exactly on the beat but then during playback it moves the midi notes ahead of the beat! I have tested this by recording the audio during the performance and making sure that the performance was exactly in time or behind the beat. But then when you stop recording, for some reason the midi notes shift ahead! So now playback of the recording sounds quite different than the performance -- it's always ahead of where you played it. The buffer size affects by how much but it always shifts it ahead of where you play. What this means in effect, is that if you record a performance that is behind the beat it will often be so shifted that it ends up AHEAD of the beat during playback. Again, this has been reported many times over the past 5-10 years and I've yet to find someone who has tested it and NOT found this happening.

Anyway, curious if 2022.6 or 2022.7 fix this issue. Any help would be much appreciated!
