Default Convert Audio drum loop to Midi notes in PT7.1

Does anyone know a better method within Pro Tools 7.1 TDM to complete this task or would you recommend another piece of software? has this technolgy even been invented yet in a software product to action this task

Convert Audio drum loop on a stereo or mono track which is correctly alligned to the session grid to midi notes.

1: Convert audio loop into discrete regions by using strip silence which will leave you a series of regions each containing a single kick and snare hit
2: Create a midi track underneath your audio loop track and insert a note with a length of aboubt 1/16--select this note and CUT it using Edit menu.
3: Select the Midi Track and the Audio Loop track and group them.
4: Use the GRABBER tool and select the first region on the Audio Loop track and PASTE using Edit menu
(This will insert our origional midi note back onto the track at the same time location as the audio region.)
5: Continue doing this for each audio region and you will end up with a Midi pattern with the same timing as the ogional drump loop and thus you can assign the sound you want with Battery etc

thanks in advance
Dave

MIDI transcription by far is the quickest most of the time.
But, If you have separate tracks (Kick, Snr ect..) Melodyne will give you your midi notes. Just map into battery and your there.

There are ways of doing this automatically with Drumagog and midi pipe. This is a killer app or plug-in thats yet to be written.

Note:
Recycle will give a Slice-rhythm. It will be (not pitch related) Slice-chromatic if being used outside of slice control.
----
For transcribing I'm talking about doing it yourself.
i.e. Listen and match midi beats to you audio region. Doesn't take to long.
-------
In Melodyne taking in a mixed region (loop not separated) as polyphonic, switch to melodic and move the sound / beats to new notes (All hats to the same pitch ect..). These will then become midi notes you can freely map after you’ve saved audio to midi. A very cool feature not only for drums to drum machine conversion but for vocal and or solos to synth or sample doubles as well.
---
Be creative, there are other ways. The fastest may be to just re-record the parts if your up to the task.

I agree with all of this. It just seems that the original question can be acheived with ReCycle.
