Are you using the GeForce GTX 285 graphics card?

How did you set up?

Thanks!

Yes, 285gtx. Didnt take much. Connected that cable you see there to the aux 1 power connector on the motherboard, the cable that came with the hdx into aux 2. I had to move the vid card into slot number 2 and put the hdx into slot 1 because the hdx was too long to fit in slots 2,3 and 4. Pluged the cables into the cards and "bing". I ended up sitting back down to my computer last night, just pening and playing with a bunch of old sessions. No matter what I threw at it the system didnt even break a sweat. Even though every single one of my plugins converting to rtas, my cpu usage stayed at about 7-9% almost the whole time. Pretty ridiculous...

Thanks for the info. Very interesting stuff. Are you using a Mac or PC?

Thanks! I might give it a try. I just hope it doesn't destroy either card.

I have a spare fanless ATI card that I should swap in but I like Nvidia drivers for PC builds. Just trying to not buy another video card since I have spares up the wazoo, but only one fabless. I think I'll just pull the fan connector off that and see how it behaves. But I digress...Don't be afraid of splitting the MAcPro PCIe power to the 5780. I'm sure if you'd want to game with it...on another boot drive from PT of course, you might stress it, but what's the point of that? PCs are still the gamer's choice and I never, ever mix work and play.
I'm now in this same mess - 2012 12 Core 3.06, 48GB Ram and 5870 ... just took delivery of HDX and now AVid tells me that they don't support it. It unfathomable to me that Avid doesn't support what I have to believe is a pretty common machine for this day and age. The install instructions are abysmall ... frankly, I think I understand why HDX hasn't been adopted fast ... YOU CAN'T INSTALL IT. <breathe>

Ok - just checking everything is ok, and PLEASE please please ... could you post a photo. There are not very many resources on this topic and I do want HDX to work WITH my 5870 ...

Asking Nicely - Explicit Requests:
1. Is it still working for you fine w/ the 5870?
2. Any chance you could post a photo of the install?

Thank you again.

I ended up buying a Magma ExpressBox 4. It has 4 PCIe slots and a 550W power supply. Worked first time. Now houses HDX and UAD Octo cards.

Much more expensive than I wanted - but now that I have HDX running with UAD's Octo in a 12 Core - it's just rocking! Fast, smooth and very powerful.

My only ask would have been Avid being more upfront about the how, the cost if ownership and a better upgrade program from HDN.

PLEASE AVID HELP US! I ordered that cable thats was linked earlier, it splits correct but the output is too big for the input of the avid hdx supplied power cable.

WTF, there has got to be a simple fix for this! PLEASE RESPOND AVID!

We need a cord that goes from this:

to this:

http://img594.imageshack.us/img594/8418/mduf.png

The connections look very similar but the fitting on the power cable supplied by AVID is about half the size, but shaped the same I think.
