Default A Strange Audio Problem with HDX/PT10.2

I have a strange problem since I have upgraded to PT10.2. It is a bit difficult to put in words, but essentially when I record stuff in PT the WAV file is corrupted in the sense that it has a strange noise in it. During the recording when I monitor the recording everything is okay (i.e. no distortion is audible), but when I play back the same file once the recording is finished, there is this distortion (quite loud) present. I have checked the WAV file and played it in iTunes and it's also distorted which means that the WAV file itself is "damaged". Now when this happens I simply quit PT, restart the application and things will work ... for a while and then eventually the problem reappears. The issue starts completely at random times and I have found no pattern to it. Also this issue does not go away, i.e. if you continue to record every WAV will be corrupted in the same way. Again quitting PT and restarting the app helps every time. At first I thought that this might be a converter issue (HD Omni) especially since I first noticed the issue using AES/EBU input. But then I noticed it on analogue inputs as well. But what really convinced me that this has nothing to do with converters is that this issue also happens when I recorded VI using MIDI->AUX(VI)->Stereo Audio track.

This issue has not happened on PT10.1; 10.1.2 or 10.1.3. It only appeared when I upgraded to PT10.2. I have tried trashing the preferences and repairing the disk permissions, but that did not help.

One more info: I always have a separate session for tracking which contains NO plug-ins (except if I record the VI's obviously, but once this is recorded into WAVs I remove it).

Anyone have any thoughts? This is really annoying ... a few days ago I had to re-record all the solos on the guitar (+ duplexes) because I recorded everything first and only listened (played back) the session afterwards when I noticed that all the WAVs are corrupted.

Thank you for any feedback!

Since this is the first time I experienced a "service impacting" issue - do you recommend I contact Avid Tech Support? And while we are on this subject - are there any links on how to contact support?

Have you tried uninstalling PT 10 then repair permissions, to clean up the OS and reinstall PT10.2?

Darn...did the "safe" uninstall, repaired permissions and stuff, then re-installed PT10.2 and the same issue is still present.

I will do "complete/clean" uninstall this weekend; hopefully this will help.

FYI the complete/clean uninstall and re-install of PT10.2 + all the PI's also did not help. I can't believe that I'm the only one with this stupid problem. What I have found is that if I simply go in the preferences menu and change the buffer size for example (say from 512 to 256 -> apply) which "resets" the audio engine the problem goes away ... for a while. So you don't need to close/open PT.

This is really annoying...still no thoughts from anybody?

Well the problem is getting "worse" (well not really it's just that I have started with a mixing problem and now I can also hear the same noise during playback, too).

It's very similar to this thread only that I only use HDX2 with HD Omni and the sync is set to internal obviously.

As soon as I change the buffer size from 1024 (for mixing) to 512 it's okay again for a while. When the problem re-appears, I simply switch back from 512 to 1024. Very very strange and annoying...

Is this still an issue? Was wondering if you have any plugs that might be doing something.

Unfortunately yes; it is still happening. For tracking purposes I did not have any PI's inserted on any track (playing or recording track). I have also tried with different buffer sizes, delay compensation on/off (since I had no PIs on any of the tracks), etc. and nothing helped. Unless loading the PI's (not inserting, just loading when PT starts) can also impact the recordings?

Check the sample rate !!!
sounds like a mismatch between the session and the converters
