Default Dj\'s/producers and Digidesign

Hello everyone. I am a DJ/Pianist/vocalist. Needless to say I have a
lot of concers about Digi 001 satisfying all my creative juices in all of
these areas. From my DJ facet I hope to mixsongs through Digi 001.
With my piano skills I hope to compose my own midi music, and
my vocal talents would of couse be some audio on the various
tracks. So with that in mind I have a few questions hopefully
someone will be kind to answer
1) Is this soft/hardware the best pick given my situtaion?
2) As a DJ will I be able to create Cd's of continious mix music while
seperating tracks? (This is very important to me)
3) How much are the various plug-ins?

Thank you for your help to whoever responds. Look forward to your
comments

Howdy

1) Well, it's a tough call. The 001 is targeted at a pretty specific audience. I think it's a great tool for the project studio/composer/would-be-producer (like myself). I don't know how appropriate Pro Tools would be in a live/DJ context. Hmmm. Could be interesting. You could load up any tracks you might want into the region bin, and drag them out when you need them, as your current tracks play. With a little inventive bussing, you could preview the mix on a separate output before sending it out on the mains. Synching tracks on the fly might be kinda tough. Though much easier if all the clips are at a pre-set BPM and you're in Grid mode... You might want to go for a Motor Mix or some other HUI so you're not limited to doing one thing at a time with the mouse. Sorry -- I don't actually know what all is involved in DJ mixing, so I'm just speculating here...

2) The actual recording to CD would have to be done externally to Pro Tools if you're mixing live. You'd need a dedicated burner. One that has S/PDIF ins would work. If you don't mind mixing everything by hand, so it's not a performance, but a pre-arranged sequence, you can bounce your mix to a file and burn to a CD with any CD-R writer.

3) Depends. Usually on the order of a few hundred bucks. Bundles can go up to a thousand, but of course you get a bunch of plug-ins.

hope this was somewhat helpful.
