Pro Tools crashes with Mackie Control
Hello,
I just got the firmware upgrade for my Mackie Control Universal. I installed it and all seemed to be going well. After opening a session in Pro Tools, everything works fine for a few minutes, then Pro Tools crashes. No error messages or anything. It just freezes along with the MCU. I have to use "End Task" in the task manager to quit Protools for it to run again. MCU works fine in both modes (HUI and Mackie Control) in Nuendo 3. I'm running Pro Tools LE 7 on a PC with Win XP.

Re: Pro Tools crashes with Mackie Control
Try the shortest, best quality, (assume you're using firewire) cable you can find to connect the two devices.

Re: Pro Tools crashes with Mackie Control
There is no firewire cable involved. Mackie Controls use MIDI cables.
The cables aren't the problem, because the unit works fine in Nuendo with the same cables. Thanks for ruling that out.

Re: Pro Tools crashes with Mackie Control
Have you taken the controller out of the equation to see if PT crashes on it’s own?

Re: Pro Tools crashes with Mackie Control
Yes. I use Protools on that system for most of the day everyday, so I know when anything new happens. It only crashes when the Mackie Control is selected as a controller.
Any ideas?

Re: Pro Tools crashes with Mackie Control
the only problem that I have had with MCU and PT is that "Token Byte Error". But that was at least 2 years ago. And it never crash of of the blue with no warning.
What firmware upgrade to you have. I have v2.1.2

Re: Pro Tools crashes with Mackie Control
OK. I've tried using a different midi interface, with different cables. Crash.
I've tried putting in the token size text file. Same result. Any other suggestions?

Re: Pro Tools crashes with Mackie Control
Now I've updated to PT 7.3.1 and it still crashes. I'm clueless.

Re: Pro Tools crashes with Mackie Control
I wonder if the controller personality file is corrupted somehow.
You could try one of two things - find someone on the same version of Pro Tools and get a copy of their entire Controllers folder and replace yours, or do a clean uninstall/reinstall or Pro Tools so that it recreates the controllers. Let us know if that helps at all. |
