Default Mac Convert

Hi,

I'm was a Mac user but got fed up with the crashes and problems. I'm trying to build a new PC system through a site called NexGen at http://www.systemquote.com. I know this might sound like an elementary sounding question but I'm not sure if this motherboard would be compatible. It's listing is as follows:

Socket A GigaByte 7VTXE KT266A, 5 PCI, 4 USB, UDMA/100, 4X AGP, 3 DIMM, Sound

I know the KT266A is a good chipset, but there is a mention of VIA in the motherboard description and the digidesign website says VIA is incompatible. I'm also not sure if this constitutes a "pure" chipset. Thanks for any help you can provide.

After a quick look at NexGen's prices, I think you'd be better off buying a pre-configured from http://dawbox.com or building it yourself http://pricewatch.com.

I agree. You would be better building it yourself. Get the Asus A7V266E with the same KT266a chipset, AMD XP 1.8 or 1.9 Ghz processor, check prices at www.pricewatch.com, 512 MB PC2100 Micron DDR ram from www.crucial.com, Koolance case with 400W powersupply from www.koolance.com, 2-IBM 60GXP 60GB ATA100 7200RPM hard drives from www.newegg.com
Throw in that Matrox G450 Dual Video card www.newegg.com, a fast CDRW or DVD-R/CDRW combo and you should be set. Oh I forgot that Mitsumi floppy drive for around 7.00 at www.newegg.com
Should be able to put together a top notch system for under 1000.00 on your own.
Good luck.
