Default PTLE 5.1.1 performance woes - Help me go back to 5.1

I've installed PTLE version 5.1.1 on my 466 G4 with o/s 9.1 in anticipation of the imminent 32-track update. However, performance has now nose-dived and I've repeatedly encountered the "bounce handler cannot keep up" error, although tracks play back ok when not bouncing.

I've double-checked my preferences, memory allocations, etc. etc., and all seems to be the same as it was for 5.1 - but the G4 is behaving extremely sluggish.

I think I'd like to just go back to version 5.1. What's the easiest way to go back to a prior version without causing chaos with my installed plug-in's and other items? Anyone else notice these performance problems with 5.1.1? I think I can live without the "trim" plug-in, considering all the other headaches that 5.1.1 has caused me.

Burton, this is a post I saved. I would also take a cue from resident cpu guru dcornutt and drag your OMS folder to the trash, but Don't empty the trash. Let PTle 5.1 do a new install, and then I guess you could get any custom OMS setups out of le trash and put em in the new OMS folder.

If you want to feel safe about plug-ins, drag teh Plug Ins and Plug-in Settings folder from the System Folder>DAE and put them somewhere. You can throw them back in later. But I'm pretty sure any PT install will create a folder called obsoleted Digi Folder... and will keep your plug-ins in-tact.

FWIW, I had no problems upgrading to 5.1.1. That doesn't help you much though.

How to perform a reinstall of PT LE (Mac OS):
Trash the following items and then run PT LE 5.1.1 installer from the CD-ROM:

from Hard Drive:
-------Digidesign folder
from System folder:
-------DAE Folder (remove all third party plug-ins and custom presets)
from Control Panels folder:
-------Digidesign®
from Extensions folder:
-------DigiSystem INIT
-------Digidesign DSP Manager
-------Digidesign Output Drivers
From Preference folder:
-------DAE prefs
-------DigiSetup
-------ProTools preferences

Thanks for the info. 5.1.1 works, but is a definite drain on resources I don't have to spare. Maybe with that sonnet card.....
