Default Best way to convert from 44.1k to 48k?

I started an interesting discussion over at Soundsonline. It was about how to record/mix EAST WEST Libraries to be used in film at 48k. Several heavy hitters (including Doug Rogers) suggested that it is better to record your tracks at 44.1, and then after you have bounced down to a stereo mix, to convert the file to 48k using a program like Peak.

The reasoning is that all of the samples in the libraries were originally recorded at 44.1. When you them in a session at 48k in Pro Tools, they are going through a conversion process. A program like Peak would do a better job at it.

So my question is, if I have a stereo mix at 44.1 I want to convert, how should I do it?

Should I create a new session at 48k and import the 44.1 file and then use the L2 from waves to dither it "up"?

Is there an an unfriendly conversion process that happens when I import the 44.1 file into the 48 session, or does the only conversion happen when I use the Waves L2.

I'd love to hear from other people about what they do to use sample libraries at 48k.

CHEERS!

Paul

I would recommend that you use the plug-in in a native sample rate session (44.1kHz).. when you get the part right record it to audio tracks. Import those tracks into your main 48kHz session using tweakhead settings -- that way the rest of your session is 48kHz and hasn't been sample rate converted.

Thanks for the reply Rail.

So importing it does convert it, eh?

No need to convert it with a program like Peak?

Import Session Data will give you the option to SRC. I haven't used Peak and compared the algorithms.
