Trying to Record Midi ... no signal!
Hey I put post in other forum, but i think this is probably best spot!
I'm trying to record Midi from my Roland keyboard. I've done it before with my mbox, but now using digi002 and can't get signal. So here is how i have configured (which i'm guessing wherin somewhere lies the problem! ; ) Midi Track: Input set to ALL. Output ... well i've tried everything available, but i remember using GSM Wave from computer before. None seem to work. Aux Track: have insert of Sampletank. Tried numerous input configs, but nothing! I'm lost!! I have midi in/outs from keyboard through a midi converter into usb on computer. I'm 99% sure this is how i did it before on mbox. anyone got any ideas?? I'm new to midi, so probably going to need some basic explanation

Re: Trying to Record Midi ... no signal!
Try setting "Midi Thru" to on in the protools midi menu. It must be checked. You should be able to see something the midi level meter now after hitting record on the track. If not, check your keyboard settings and make sure it is set to transmit midi out. Once you get the level meter indicating midi input set the midi output to the port/channel on your midi interface that goes to the unit you want the midi to control or set the midi out to the plugin synth.

Re: Trying to Record Midi ... no signal!
I am not near my setup but I'll try.....
Make sure you install the driver for your USB midid interface. Connect a midi cable from your Roland KB midi out to a port on your midi interface. create a midi track.... set the track's input to the port (the one you plugged into above) and channel that matches your Roland KB or you can set it to ALL. If you can not see the midi interface ports and channels in the midi tracks input selection menu, then your midi interface is not correctly installed. USB midi interfaces require a driver to be installed before they will show up in PT. Set "Midi Thru" on in PT. Hit Record on the midi track. Once you get this much working you should see the midi data in the level meter on the midi track. If you do not the problem is either the midi cable is bad or not connected correctly or the Roland KB is not set to transmit midi. You have to get this much working first before moving to the next step. Create an AUX track Insert a synth intrument on the Aux track. Set the midi tracks output go to the synth (it will show up in the midi track output selection menu after it is inserted on an Aux track.) Set the Synth's midi channel to match the one that the midi track output is set to or set it to ALL. hope this helps randy |

Re: Trying to Record Midi ... no signal!
hmmm, still not working. Shouldn't be problem with keyboard (new) or interface. They've always worked and they are brand new.
Not sure thanks anyhow for trying!

Re: Trying to Record Midi ... no signal!
Tdub - what, exactly, isn't working? Do you see meters on the input to the MIDI track? What happens if you draw MIDI notes on the track and play it back routed to Sampletank - can you hear it? What version of Pro Tools are you running? If it's Pro Tools 7 or higher, have you set up your device in the MIDI Studio Setup window? Did you install the driver for your MIDI interface?
Lastly, have you tried all the suggestions in the Win XP/ Pro Tools 6.x General Troubleshooting thread? |

Re: Trying to Record Midi ... no signal!
did you ever get this working? I have a Roland KB with the MIDI in/out connected directly to the MIDI in/out on the 002. I can't get any signal either. I had no problems with the 001.
