Default Re: Is Avid S3L-X Live compatable with Windows?

Big thing everyone does with the S3 is switching the power off at the end of the day. Meanwhile I don’t turn off the power on my S1s or Dock in years.

Good to know. I pretty much do that be default as I'm just a guy with a home studio and work on my own music. Not a facility where I could see them running for hours and being on 24/7. I even have the power connected to a switchable outlet because I didn't like working the power switch on them too much. A couple of times when I was turning it off I felt like when the rocker switch lingered in the "in-between" position I heard a strange noise like it was oscillating between on/off states. Sort of a clicking.

I'm more or less babying mine. I got a great deal on a lightly used unit. The original owner hadn't even removed the plastic protective covering over the OLEDs.

I do find the AVB audio support interesting. I"m using MOTU interfaces. I have an 828es and a 24Ai. The 828es is connected to the Mac via TB3>TB2 adapter. The 24Ai is connected via ethernet cable to the AVB port on the back of the 828es. If I had an AVB switch I'd be fascinated to connect it up and see if I can incorporate the S3's audio I/O into my system. It would be convenient to use it for Control Room volume, although I can currently do that with the knob on the front panel of my 828es. Not sure how good the DAC and ADC in the S3 is.

Honestly, I don't think you want to go down that route because that's the most likely thing to lose support. (from Avid or Apple)
