Default AUDIO - POP ... not cables for pro tools

Brand new system meets spec. Drivers up to date. All recommended configurations accounted for. Trouble shooting check list done.

With all cable disconnected and Pro Tools "NOT" running, the MBOX STUDIO will not play a You Tube audio without pops and clicks.

Have you had this problem, how did you resolve it?

Have not encountered this before. What exact computer specs are you running on? RAM? Processor? Operating System And OS version?

Can you also post your Mbox Control app's preference?

Sounds like a clocking issue perhaps? I'm guessing you're on PC? I'm not familiar with the Mbox Studio, and I've been on Youtube, like, 10 times, but make sure your sample rate and clock source settings match between your hardware and software. Also, a buffer size that is too low could result in what you're experiencing as well. Crank it up to at least 1024 and see if that helps...

See last post from me for more details -- If you need more I'll figure out how to post a screen snap https://duc.avid.com/showthread.php?p=2704761#poststop

I have an active ticket with AVID but they are throwing in the towel. Hoping hands-on users might have some insight...trying to avoid RMA

Thanks for the extra info. Sadly more questions...

Has this gear ever worked OK together or with other interfaces/computers? If so what changed?

Do you get these pops and clicks with other media playback, say just using a local Windows music player?

And when testing that set the HW buffer size as large as possible.

Is the interface connected directly or via a USB hub? Make sure you try removing as many other connections/cables frnb/

Does this sound like typical misclocking pops and clicks... if you have heard that in the past you likely will know what they sound like (if not can you share a recording, like maybe make one with your phone).

Any chance it is some form of interference? Either radio frequency or coupled through the mains power? Refrigerators or thermostats switching on can sometime cause pops but that most commonly happens when tracking a guitar or bass

Is this unit under warranty still or can you return to the retailer? If that is an option, don't let that option lapse while trying out stuff.

  • Brand new install end of june ...problem from the get-up
  • Tested largest buffer
  • USBc direct - tested adapter also
  • I'll post a recording and link it next post
  • It's on a dedicated power line direct from the main box - was used for the old computer without issue ...tried another outlet too
  • AVID offered RAM...trying to avoid that
  • Is there a link between the computer and the MBOX clock?

This is the popping sound. Just trying to play you tube. The audio shows on S/PDIF output but not sure that has any impact. This is the same kind of popping it get when pro tools is engaged. It makes recording impossible

https://youtu.be/CYtBi5AurCM?feature=shared this is what latency mon flags...not sure if it's a proper test but it does detect the audio problem I experience

This is an incredibly non-useful things to post. How is anybody else supposed to guess what list you are referring to or exactly what you have done?

So what *exact* trouble shooting have you done?

What setting/sample rates/buffer sizes?

What happens if you increase the H/W buffer size in the MBox Studio to as large as it can go?

Since clocking is always suspect with pops and clicks suspect (and as others have asked for) what *exactly* are the Mbox Studio clock settings?

Since the Mbox Studio has a hardware mixer/monitor what have done to exclude that being the issue, possible clicks and pops being mixed in from some other source. Conform the MBox Pro mixer is playing back *only* the "DAW return" or "output" you are listening to.

Still stuck, post a Sandra Report, point out what USB port the interface is connected to etc.

Post a recording online of the pops and clicks.

And, do you have anything connected to ADAT or SPDIF inputs on the Mbox?

NOW THAT'S INTERESTING: There are no cables attached to inputs or outputs.

However, you tube is impacting the S/PDIF output meter.

It also shows on Internal 1&2...

Why S/PDIF out when nothing is connected
