imported movies only play when soundtrack is deleted. WHY?
I searched the DUC to make sure I wasn't going into something that's already been covered, but so far I haven't seen anyone else addressing this issue.
I have PT 5.1.1 LE on a 400mHz G4 with 448MB of RAM, and I'm noticing that when I import Quicktime movies for use in a session, they render the session completely unplayable UNLESS they don't have a soundtrack. In my attempts to troubleshoot this, I curiously deleted a Quicktime file's soundtrack, and voila, it imported and played just fine in the session. And I'm not using that big a file either. We're talking 320X240. Anyone know what this is about? |

Re: imported movies only play when soundtrack is deleted. WHY?
Just a thought: what you're importing is a full Quicktime sequence (video + audio), now PT's Import movie is only supposed to import.....movie.
It means you have a file that's interleaved with Quicktime video and Quicktime audio. Quicktime audio is not supported by PT (it has to be converted). That's probably why PT refuses to play . I believe the proper way to import the attached audio would be to use the Import audio from other movies feature (this will create a compatible file). I'm not sure of this since I always ask for separated audio (SDII/AIFF/Wave files, DAT, audio CD) and video (quicktime Movie, DV tape). Hope that will help anyway...

Re: imported movies only play when soundtrack is deleted. WHY?
Thanks for your response to my question. But out of curiosity, if you have a Quicktime movie with audio, doesn't the Import Movie option only import the video portion anyway? I guess my question is, if it's only importing the video, why does the existence of an audio track in the QT file cause the video portion to not be able to play in PT? Especially if there's an option to "Import Audio From Current Movie", which would seem to suggest that a movie having an audio track is not a bad thing.
What I have to do now to make QT movies work in PT is: 1) Use "Import Audio From Current Movie" to convert and get the audio into PT. 2) Delete the audio track from the QT file. 3) Import the QT movie. Is this the way it's supposed to be? If so, why is there an option to import audio from your current movie, which implies that you've already brought a movie into a session and that it still has a sound track from which to import. Am I making sense? |
