Default Naīve M1 Mac/Avid Video question

When? When will Avid get the video engine working on M1 Macs? Any educated/semi-educated guesses? Rumours?
I would like to put my new Mac to work.

My best guess would be "some time this year", but that may not be until The Next Place (Monterey) is released and then some waiting, so presumably "2021.12" but that is to repeat myself just a guess.

Well... knowing our luck, Apple will release a whole new range of M1x and M2 based Macs in the coming months, coinciding with the release of OSX 12, and the cycle will begin all over again.

That is the million dollar question. My 5,1 is starting to show it's age and it's how I earn a living.

Adobe is going to be first in line as they have a bigger customer base, then Avid would be next. Did you read the production expert piece yesterday? Apparently alot of it comes doen to PACE (iLOK).

If PT was native this year i'd buy an M1X for sure.

I've never been more eager than I am for a new Mac Mini and PT Native support. Its going to be like going from Black and White to Colour. Except with bugs. But power wise we are not going to know ourselves....

I just read that Francois Quereuil from Avid has been active on the Pro Tools facebook page again. Looks like Avid is aiming for both HDX/HD support and video engine support in a 2021.9 release, though he did flag that the codecs supported in the initial release might be limited.

M1 Macs with HDX and video engines could be viable as early as next month.

I was the one asking him about the video engine. He said October, but based on the recent Pro Tools Expert article about Pace not having iLok drivers ready, I'm wondering if that might get pushed back.

EDIT: I went to look up PTE's article about iLok support and apparently they posted a new article with the same screenshot and quoted me. https://www.pro-tools-expert.com/hom...n-october-2021

I wish they would post here in the official users forum.

I'm not holding my breath for a stable version this side of christmas. Maybe for the music guys but not us.

I hope I'm wrong.

I suspect 2021.9 will land regardless. Whether or not Pace has apple silicon SDKs available will probably determine if it is a universal binary installer with native M1 support, or just an intel installer that runs through Rosetta 2.
