Roland V-drums
What's the best way to record a Roland V-drum kit , TD-10 module, into pro tools le 7.3.1 so that I can have control over each individual piece of the kit.
Thanks Mariner |

Re: Roland V-drums
Have you thought about getting something like BFD, or any of the other drum sample packages? Then all you have to do is record the MIDI, and then you can get all the channel separation you need (even 3 different mics on the snare in BFD).

Re: Roland V-drums
Another vote for BFD, or rather BFD2.

Re: Roland V-drums
Definitely BFD2. I've been hearing great reviews of the new Jim Scott expansion pack from Platinum Samples.

Re: Roland V-drums
I am using Superior 2.0 and I love it. I haven't used BFD, but the lite version I just got with PT8 has not been easy to configure.

Re: Roland V-drums
I use a TD-10 kit with ezdrummer and it works great. After using that, I will likely never record the audio from the TD-10 again. But in case you really want to, run 8 lines out of it and re-assign stuff so you have separate outputs. Send the toms to the main outs in stereo, send the other sounds out the aux outputs by assigning and hard panning. After you hear ezdrummer (or BFD) you won't want the Roland sounds anyway.

Re: Roland V-drums
I use my TD-12 in lots of PT sessions and have good results. I prefer to record my acoustic kit but the TD-12 has less variables. My most common setup is acoustic kit with electric kick drum.
I've done sessions with each of the drum tracks from the TD-12 on it's own audio track and then pan them and mix the audio tracks. For quick and dirty recordings (songwriting or low end demo) I'll just bring the TD-12 audio in as a stereo track. |

Re: Roland V-drums
What I have been doing lately with fantastic results is recording midi from the drum pads but using real cymbals and hat with 3 condenser mics. I don't care if I see another acoustic kit.

Re: Roland V-drums
i use a td 10 kit maxed out with bfd 2, with andy johns expansion (KILLER) and also use drumagog to double up samples and such with steven slate samples. i have also done the e kit with real cymbals (sometimes hi hat as well) and works great. i am with albee. if the player and kit is right i am all for a real kit, but typically this dont happen anymore!
