Pro Tools F keys not working with external keyboard

Hi all,

Longtime PT user and first time poster here (sorry if this is in the incorrect thread, please let me know if this is the case).

I started using and external wired keyboard from MACALLY and I've found that I'm unable to use the F keys in PT without having to hold the FN key, even after going into System Preferences and selecting "Use F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys" option. I was previously using a wired Apple keyboard with no problems. Also my MacBook keyboard works fine (I am able to use the F keys to operate PT, can use the FN key to operate OS shortcuts). Anyone else have this problem and know how to fix it?

I am using:

Pro Tools 2021.12.0

MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015)
Catalina 10.15.17
2.2GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7

If you can't find another fix, I suspect Karabiner might be able to restore functionality:

Hi, I am having this exact same problem with a Macally keyboard. I have the correct System Prefs Function Key setting toggled, but it's not working. (I suspect crappy Macally keyboard might be the culprit). Did you ever figure it out? It's driving me bonkers. I'm awaiting a new Keychron keyboard next week and very much hoping I don't still have this problem. Thanks!!

Thanks! I prefer the Function keys, but that's a better alternative for now than pressing Function / F1, F2...

I've used many Apple keyboard from different eras for Pro Tools and never had an issue with the behavior described. I can only imagine if 2 users are having the same issue it must be the keyboard itself unfortunately.

Have you tried asking Macally? Their keyboards have a function lock coded into the ROM. Search for that or email them.

Non-responsive Fn keys solution for PT on Sequoia 15.1, 2024 M4 mini.
System Settings - Keyboard - Keyboard Shortcuts (button) - scroll down to "Fn Function Keys" - Toggle on "Use F1, F2, etc...."

I'm having a problem with F keys too, although with official keyboards (azerty), mapping the F keys in System Preferences doesn't last long (even if PT can see them assigned).
I haven't tried using Fn at the same time.
