Thanks.

How stable is this?

Are you using your cMP 5,1 everyday with PT?

Yes, that’s all this machine does. Pro Tools HDX, day in day out. I’ve had OpenCore with Mojave for quite some time since it provides a boot screen for the RX580 GPU and GPU acceleration. I just recently cloned the boot drive and went to Catalina. It’s only been a few days but no issues at all with PT 2021.6,HDX, UAD and NVME PCIe cards installed. Got the clone of Mojave/PT 2021.6 if I have issues but I know several that are running Catalina/Pro Tools on 5,1s. It’s as solid as Catalina is on anything.

I’ve been fine with Mojave but since PT 2021 moved it to the bottom of the support list, I figured it was time to make sure Catalina works on the 5,1 and eek another two years out of it.

Off the wall someone on Rumor's have the bootloader on a USB stick. that way they can easily remove and NVRAM 5chimes and back to Mojave like it never left. I like that concept.

Mojave stable for me for a while as well. Going to install 11.2.3 on a separate drive and see how my 128Megs of ram stacks up. I'm searching to see if anyone has tried 256 will be interesting.

I'm on vanilla so it's great to hear the big toys are working well with OC.

Interesting. Sounds impressive.

Are you doing music or audio post production?

I had issues with Mojave so I went back to High Sierra.

I do records and music for TV/film. Stereo and 5.1. The occasional direct to air post mix but mostly music only mixing.

I'm on vanilla, but tracking 18tracks @ 24/48 no problem.

I just did my first video project last week. pretty smooth with full 1080P.

Off the Wall does the high-end work.

Really no need for that. OpenCore works fine in Mojave and any OS supported by the 5,1. I know people that boot back into 10.6.8 and run Pro Tools 10. Normally you can’t go back that far with a modern Metal GPU but with OC, you can.

You also get a boot screen picker with OC that is usually missing when running a generic Metal GPU.

What's the benefit of OC with Mojave?

You get the boot screen with a Mac flashed Metal GPU like I have.

Well the benefit for Mojave provided you have a metal card is 4K acceleration and not much else. But blazing if you do video like Off the Wall. The price of admission is (FREE TOO). I imagine OC take a load off the GPU in pro Tools ?
