Hi,

You said that the Digi001 does not work with any other hardware. This is not true. In one year when a 4.5 GHz p4 chip comes out, my digi will probably work with it; just in the same way that it currently works with my new 2.4p4, which is an upgrade from a 800p3. While this may sound like nitpicking, I would suggest that since the 'power' of a native system is dependent on the available hardware, this becomes extremely relevent in determining which system to purchase.

I also disagree with your '4 categories' theory because I either don't see myself in any of them, or I would go into category 3 (the verbal jousts aside); but I don't like prorec's boards.

John.

You left out Type 5.

Type 5 is a professional and generally records the majority of a bands bed tracks in a commercial studio either to 2" or TDM. This basic tracking is then taken to the home/project 001 based studio where they are edited and with a small collection of well chosen and good quality gear further overdubs and vocals are recorded. Once all the audio has been tracked depending on the budget of the record it will either be mixed in the protools domain on the 001, or will be mixed on a real board in a commercial studio.

The "protools users are typically 1 and 4" is bull*****e. Why are you guys so damn obsessed with justifying why you bought a 001/002. You spend so much time rationalising things when do you ever make music or record music! Sheesh!!!

I bought a 001 for a few reasons; I love the protools software for what I do (no midi/no synths all live instruments), having a protools compatible system is necessary for me as I do a large proportion of my work in TDM equipped studios. I was well aware that I couldn't use any other software (other than logic), I knew there were limited plugins, I don't give a flying f00k about VST/DirectX or VST Instruments. So PT/001 is perfect.

that's it for my rant

trying to be cool and humble here, but I sense a bit of animosity for some reason about this protools post. I really cant figure out why you would take the time to create this post when it does sound rather passive/aggressive and a tad insulting.
Could it be me reading this wrong?
Just for the record, I spent a long time recording nice professional sounding stuff on tape, everything from cassette to the big pancakes until I finally went digital. You know something? I made some pretty damn good recordings on them too that I will share with anyone. Lets hear yours!
My budget keeps me in category X. My category, X, is someone that is going to create the best damn mix they possible can on anything they have at my disposal.
My ears will be what decides whether I am good or not.
Folks using the 001 and 002 now are using more power than could be imagined on for this price 10-15 years ago, and are making damn good recordings on them too and getting paid too. Does this bother you and why?

I don't think that this post was put out because this person is trying to rationalize having a 001. He found it on another board and I think he just wanted your guys take on it. maybe I read it wrong but I didn't think he personally ment to critisize us.
