2) Purchase a new Subscription License - be sure not to give up your Perpetual License - and receive 1 year of support and updates and extra plug-ins. After 1 year if you do not renew your Subscription License, this Subscription version of Pro Tools will not open, never mind no support and updates or extra plug-ins.

As mentioned, stick with your Perpetual License, pay the Upgrade cost, install what versions you need on your two computers, and move the license between them on a physical iLok2 or iLok3. Make sure the iLok has ZDT and refresh it every 90 days or less.
Perfect, understood. Thank you!

One last question if anyone sees this - I might give the trial a go before jumping right back in with the Upgrade. Will installing a trial license affect my ability to upgrade if I decide to do so, or affect my existing perpetual license in any way? Or will the trial license be completely separate from my existing perpetual? I just want to double check because it'll all be linked to the same email address and iLok account etc.

Installing a trial license affects nothing, it's entirely separate, you can keep using the other license you have now, you can update that other license in future.

Sorry about the earlier confusion, I did not think you were looking at subscriptions, as others have said since you have a perpetual license you should only be looking at annual renewal/updates for your perpetual license. (that annual support/update program renewal for a perpetual license now acts as an update for your older Pro Tools version, there is no longer a separate more expensive update SKU for lapsed support/update plans).
